Policy timeline

Much of the groundwork for successful maternal and newborn health programming from 2000 to 2020 was laid through service delivery innovations in the decades that preceded our study period. For this reason, we include major policy developments since 1975 in the policy timeline in Figure 44. Broader strategies and policies are listed at the top of the timeline, with more specific programs and policies mapped to health system functions at the bottom.
